The race is certified and administered through big river running, and takes place every year the weekend after the greentree festival.

Greentree festival the city of kirkwood missouri has been putting on the greentree festival since 1961 and began as a way to replace trees that had died in kirkwood because of a drought. Throughout the years the festival has grown and changed but it continues to focus on its mission to promote community spirit and to bring kirkwood residents It kicks off every year on the 2nd weekend after labor day in kirkwood park with music, food, an arts and crafts booth area, the folklife festival, games and activities for kids, and a car show and sailboat regatta on sundays.
